I just got a job at a university and have a room for my research. I am a German language instructor and have always been researching linguistics, especially German grammar. Recently, I had a video call with a friend who noted that the bookshelves behind me were quite empty. Correct, I just got my room and have about a hundred books, whereas two of the four walls are basically massive metal shelves.

So this friend of mine said he could offer me some books for free. It turned out he meant the massive and complete 32+1-volume collection of dictionaries by the Brothers Grimm! They are the fathers of German linguistics and started working on their dictionary in 1838. (It took them a while to finish, though.) The books I got are a reprint for Japan from 1960, but their content is original. Every volume is in a separate box and in perfect condition. The +1 is a very accurate index for the whole series.

You can imagine my feelings as a language nerd. Not many of those words are used nowadays, so the chances are very low that I am going to actually read the books on a regular basis, but this is the one and only condition for nerd stuff: It must be useless and cool at the same time.

Just for balance, I put a huge book of German poems at the bottom right.

It's cool, isn't it?
